Selecting A Good Garden Utility Cart

Whether you’re an avid gardener yourself, or if you’re buying this item for a friend or loved one with a green thumb, there are some things to consider. First and foremost is to understand that there are several styles to choose from and each has its unique advantages, depending on the type of use you are planning. For most gardeners or weekend green thumbs, the lighter duty garden cart will be fine.

This model will hold up to 200 lbs. and is fairly easy to navigate a garden or planting bed with. These often have two wheels and a handle to pull it around. It is unlike a wheelbarrow in that the handles are more of an upright position, allowing you to use the garden utility cart to do the work instead of your back and legs. These lighter duty ones are usually priced around $50 USD.

If you are someone who really enjoys gardening – and by ‘enjoys’ we mean has dirt under their fingernails at work on Monday morning – then you might be best to consider a garden cart that can handle heavier loads.  There are models in this class that are rated to loads up to 600 lbs.  Now, it isn’t necessarily always recommended to test these limits, but they are sure to hold up better to bigger loads than the two-wheel carts.  This will be important as you’ll be able to haul around much more soil and accessories without worrying about breaking your little helper.

Utility carts come in a variety of materials and styles, too. This heavier duty style just referenced is often a stronger plastic material or can even be made of metal. They also usually have four wheels instead of two. This type will cost around $150 USD on average. You can also find portable or collapsible models as well. With any style you choose, garden carts will surely save their owner a heap of back, knee and shoulder pain – your chiropractor will be impressed!
