Accidents and Precautions on Lawn Mower Use

Accidents seem to follow when mechanical mowers are used in mowing the lawn. There are thousands of reported cases of lawn mower accidents every year from all over the world. Getting too close to the engine can cause skin burns and being in contact with the mower’s rotating blade can cut your skin and hurt you. If not properly handled, the running lawn mower can run over people during its reverse cycle.

Other mower mishaps are caused by flying objects like stones and debris that hit the mowers and eventually shoot off and hit whoever is in the way. There are also known instances when the mowers fell over the operators while operating on steep banks and tight corners. One of the worst cases is getting hurt due to electrocution when using lawn mowers that are electric-powered.

There may be risks of getting into accidents when lawn mowers are employed but it does not mean that these gears should be eliminated. People should just be more careful with the use of mowers and it will be more efficient and safer if a better mower, such as the Bosch Rotak 34 mower, is used. There are some tips that owners should take into consideration to prevent accidents.

Firstly, owners should start by reading the manual because it will guide them in operating the lawn mower properly. Do not assume that you can proceed to operating the mower just because you have seen your friends or neighbors use it. Follow the instructions in the manual for your own safety and also to keep the mower in good working condition.

Before you operate the mower, make certain that all stones and small objects are removed from the lawn. If the objects hit the blades, they may shoot off into the eyes of the operator or other people staying in the yard. For increased protection, it is advisable to wear protective goggles while using the mower. There are also many available steel shoes in the market which are specifically made to protect the feet from any injury while mowing. If you cannot afford to buy new steel shoes, you can wear thicker footwear so that your feet will still be protected. Of course, do not be just count on the shoes to protect your feet. You should also make sure that your feet do not get too close to the blades.

Make sure that the safety guards of the mower are securely in place before you put the mower into use. The safety guards will protect the blades from getting in contact with objects other than lawn grass. Whatever kind of mower may be used, always ensure that the one operating the mower is securely and properly in place. Give consideration to the height and age of the mower operator as it will be unsafe to let a small child operate the lawn mower. Do not allow the children to sit with the operator on the mower and keep them away from the yard when you mow to prevent any untoward incidents.

These are some of the accidents and precautions involving the use of lawn mowers. It may greatly help to follow the general guidelines mentioned above.
